Sorel Negroni: A Caribbean Twist on a Classic with Chef Nelson German

The world of mixology is continually evolving, with innovative bartenders and spirit brands pushing the boundaries of classic cocktails. A recent highlight celebrates this dynamic spirit of innovation with the Sorel Liqueur-infused Negroni, a vibrant reinterpretation that adds a Caribbean flair to the beloved Italian staple.

This exciting twist comes courtesy of renowned Chef Nelson German, featured in a recent KCRW “Good Food” segment. Chef German, known for his Afro-Latino culinary traditions, introduces this bold cocktail in his new book, Caribbean Cocktails: Drinks and Bites from the Afro-Latino Diaspora, offering a fresh perspective on crafting exceptional drinks.

The Negroni, with its perfectly orchestrated balance of bitter, sweet, and herbal notes, has a storied history tracing back to early 20th-century Florence. Chef German’s Sorel Liqueur-enhanced version honors this legacy while introducing the rich, hibiscus-spiced profile of Sorel. Sorel Liqueur, with its warm hints of clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg, deepens the Negroni’s bittersweet character, adding a complex aromatic layer that makes it uniquely captivating.
