Urban Garden Brewing

Founded by Eamoni Collier · Washington, D.C.

The Story

Urban Garden Brewing was founded by Eamoni Collier, a native Washingtonian with 13 years of hospitality experience. Her passion for brewing began early in her career, evolving from homebrewing experiments that started in 2017. Collier spent eight years working at Right Proper Brewing Company, where she learned brewing techniques and developed an appreciation for craft beer and recipe creation. The Urban Garden Brewing brand officially launched in 2022. Collier's late grandfather, Joe Tate, a significant figure in D.C.'s music history, also influenced her and the cultural direction of the brewery. The physical Urban Garden Brewhouse opened its doors on Juneteenth, June 19, 2026, at 624 T Street NW in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C.. This location is notable as it is the former Right Proper Brewing space where Collier previously worked. Collier established the business to address a perceived gap in how craft beer connected with the local community, aiming to create a more welcoming and accessible environment while promoting diversity and inclusion within the craft beer industry. Urban Garden Brewing's beers are inspired by ancient Egyptian brewing traditions and Collier's love of nature, incorporating fresh, local ingredients such as fruits, herbs, and spices to create botanical flavors reminiscent of tea. Specific beer offerings include Chamolite, a blonde/golden ale with chamomile, green tea, and honey; Roses Aren't Dead, a pale ale with rose hip and rose petals; and Lotus Flower Bomb, an IPA made with lavender and rose. The brewhouse also features a botanical cocktail program, alcohol-free botanical elixirs, and soulful food offerings. The business successfully raised over $24,000 in a crowdfunding campaign in September 2023 to cover legal and permitting costs, exceeding its goal in 11 days. Urban Garden Brewing's products are distributed to over 40 bars, restaurants, and specialty liquor stores throughout D.C., and the company is in discussions for distribution in other states. Collaborations include partnerships with other Black-owned beer brands like Crown and Hops. The company has secured storage space and a production contract, and has been featured in publications like Washington City Paper and DC Beer, along with WUSA 9 news coverage. Urban Garden Brewing is notable as D.C.'s first Black woman-owned brewery and distribution company. It is c
