The legal battle stemmed from a dispute with another Black-owned distillery, Brough Brothers, over claims of being the “first Black-owned distillery in Kentucky.” The U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ultimately ruled in favor of Fresh Bourbon, finding that Brough Brothers failed to identify any “unambiguously false” statements made by Fresh Bourbon’s co-founders, Sean and Tia Edwards. This decision reinforces the authenticity of their journey and their claims within the competitive bourbon market.
Sean and Tia Edwards founded Fresh Bourbon Distilling Co. in December 2017 with a vision to bring a fresh perspective to a traditional industry.
