Highlighting this upward trajectory, LaShellé Wines recently celebrated a significant achievement, with its founder and winemaker, Nicole Camp, earning the esteemed “Best Black Winemaker” honors from The Seattle Medium in August 2026. This recognition is a testament to the dedication and artistry that Black winemakers bring to their craft, further solidifying their place among the industry’s elite. Continuing to push boundaries, Theopolis Vineyards, led by the indomitable Theodora R. Lee, famously known as “Theo-patra, Queen of the Vineyards,” is set to embark on a historic journey. In October 2026, Theopolis Vineyards will host the Taste of Bordeaux River Cruise in France, marking a pioneering moment as the first and only African American vintner to host river cruises in Europe. Lee's ongoing commitment to excellence and diversity was also celebrated in March 2026 by Forbes, recognizing her inspiring journey and impact on both the wine industry and the legal profession. Her boutique winery in California's Yorkville Highlands continues to garner acclaim for its Petite Sirah and Pinot Noir, showcasing the exceptional quality emerging from Black-owned vineyards.
Meanwhile, LoveLee Wine, founded by CEO and sommelier Aamira Garba, is celebrating a decade of winemaking excellence and has recently received significant industry accolades. The brand proudly earned awards at the 2025 Sommeliers Choice Awards, securing Silver for its 2023 Luxe Chardonnay and 2022 Winemaker’s Select Red Blend, along with Bronze for its 2023 Pure Joy Pinot Noir. Garba’s dedication to empowering lives through exceptional and accessible wines has also been recognized with a 2024 AAAV Wine Entrepreneur Grant, supporting the growth and innovation of Black wine businesses.
Innovation and accessibility are also at the forefront for Bodkin Wines. Winemaker Chris Christensen, known for crafting America’s first sparkling Sauvignon Blanc, shared his expertise at the 2026 Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival in March 2026, leading engaging wine education and tasting seminars. Bodkin Wines continues to offer a diverse portfolio, including a recently reviewed 2024 Sandy Bend Vineyard Muscat Canelli, praised for its springtime florals and zippy palate.

Onyia of Clyopatra Winery & Vineyard is breaking ground on an ambitious 40-acre expansion in South Laurel. This development includes plans for a 20-bedroom boutique hotel, a tasting room, and a golf range, which will establish Clyopatra as the largest Black-owned winery on the East Coast. This exciting project not only enhances Maryland's wine offerings but also provides vital educational opportunities through internships and apprenticeships in agriculture.
