Pittsburgh’s vibrant craft beverage landscape has gained a powerful new voice with the recent opening of Black Brewhouse in Downtown. This innovative tasting lounge, which debuted in April 2026, is a collaboration between two pioneering Black-owned brands: Windy Bridges Brew and TLC Libations. It serves as a dedicated space to showcase and celebrate the rich contributions of Black artisans to beer, spirits, cocktails, and mocktails.
Founded by Erika Turner of TLC Libations and Marcus Wyatt of Windy Bridges Brew, Black Brewhouse is more than just a bar; it is a community hub designed to foster connection and highlight Black excellence in the craft industry. Erika Turner, who co-founded TLC Libations with her mother Diane in 2017, holds the distinction of owning Pennsylvania’s first Black female-owned distillery. Her journey from corporate accounting to craft distilling underscores a passionate commitment to creating unique beverages.
Marcus Wyatt’s Windy Bridges Brew holds its own significant place as Pittsburgh’s first Black-owned brewery. Wyatt embarked on his brewing journey around 2018, coinciding with the inaugural Barrel & Flow Fest, an event dedicated to celebrating Black arts and craft brewing. This history of collaboration and mutual appreciation between Turner and Wyatt has now culminated in their shared space, Black Brewhouse, offering a curated selection of their products alongside other Black artisans from Pennsylvania.
The lounge, tucked into a former yoga studio on Forbes Avenue, aims to create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, described by one patron as feeling like 'Erika’s house.' It’s a testament to the founders' vision of cultivating a 'third space' that embraces everyone. Beyond the diverse beverage offerings, Black Brewhouse also plays a vital role in supporting the broader community, aligning with the growing movement of Black-owned businesses shaping the cultural and culinary landscape across the U.S.
This opening follows a period of notable growth and recognition for Black-owned craft beverage businesses nationwide. Just recently, Washington D.C. saw the grand opening of Urban Garden Brewhouse, the city’s first Black woman-owned brewery, founded by Eamoni Collier. As we previously reported in 'Urban Garden Brewhouse Opens, Marking a Milestone for Black Women in Craft Beer,' this new establishment also celebrated its launch around Juneteenth, emphasizing its commitment to culture and community.
Similarly, Funkytown Brewery in Chicago, one of the nation's few Black-owned craft breweries, secured a substantial $3.7 million grant from the City of Chicago earlier this year to establish its first standalone brewery and taproom on the Near West Side, projected to open in 2027. This financial backing highlights the increasing recognition and support for Black entrepreneurs in the industry.
The collaborative spirit at Black Brewhouse also echoes the ethos of events like the upcoming Barrel & Flow Fest 2026 in Pittsburgh on August 8th, where both Windy Bridges Brew and TLC Libations will be sampling products and partnering on exclusive festival beverages. The festival itself is celebrated for connecting opportunity, accessibility, and artistry, further solidifying Pittsburgh’s position as a hub for brewery diversity and inclusion.
Black Brewhouse not only enriches Pittsburgh’s social scene but also serves as a beacon of progress and representation in an industry historically lacking diversity. By providing a platform for Black-owned brands and fostering a welcoming environment, Turner and Wyatt are paving the way for future generations of Black entrepreneurs in craft beverages, proving that culture, community, and quality brews can thrive together. Their venture exemplifies the innovative collaborations and community-focused initiatives that are defining the next chapter for Black-owned beverage brands across America.
