AfroPop Soda, the innovative Black-owned beverage brand renowned for its distinctive flavors and celebration of Black creativity, has announced a pivotal distribution partnership with Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC). This collaboration is poised to propel the Oklahoma-based craft soda brand towards significant national growth and expanded market reach across the United States.
Founded by Jamel Stephens, AfroPop Soda launched in December 2023 and has rapidly gained traction, already establishing a presence in 24 states and 134 retail locations. As we reported in July, the brand has been steadily building momentum, and this new partnership with RNDC represents a major leap forward, as it will allow AfroPop Soda to scale its distribution more efficiently and enter previously hard-to-access markets. RNDC operates in 42 states, providing a robust infrastructure that could eventually see AfroPop products distributed nationwide.
Stephens emphasized that partnering with RNDC is a “turning point” for the young company, enabling it to become more competitive and increase its volume of distribution. “It puts AfroPop in the big leagues,” Stephens stated, highlighting the opportunity for the brand to expand its impact in communities and reach a broader audience. The partnership initially focuses on distribution within Oklahoma but lays the groundwork for national availability.
A Brand Rooted in Culture and Creativity
AfroPop Soda is more than just a refreshing drink; it's a celebration of Black joy, community, and culture. The brand distinguishes itself by blending unique, culturally inspired flavors with a strong connection to art and music. Each can features bold designs created in collaboration with local artists, reflecting an Afrofuturist aesthetic and amplifying Black voices.
Flavors like “Grandma’s House,” a nostalgic butterscotch cream, and “Blvcker The Berry,” a rich blackberry cream soda, exemplify AfroPop’s commitment to offering unique and memorable experiences. This approach not only provides consumers with high-quality, all-natural craft sodas but also tells a story and honors a legacy.
Building on a Legacy
Jamel Stephens launched AfroPop Soda with a mission to reignite a legacy of Black-owned soda brands in Oklahoma, which began with Jay-Kola in 1918. By focusing on authenticity and real products that represent real people, AfroPop Soda is carving out a significant niche in the crowded beverage market. The rapid demand since its December 2023 debut underscores the market's receptiveness to brands that are not only delicious but also culturally resonant and purpose-driven.
As AfroPop continues its journey, this strategic partnership with RNDC is expected to accelerate its growth, making its culturally forward beverages accessible to an even wider audience across the country.
